TECHNOLOGY AS A TOOL IN EDUCATION

TECHNOLOGY AS A TOOL IN EDUCATION

We all know that technology is around the world, and surrounds us.

Firstly and briefly we can look at the term in an etymological way. The term was borrowed from Ancient Greek. τεχνολογία , from τέχνη (tékhnē, art) + -λογία (-logía, study). That means technology is the study of art.

Well...

In my blog with the help of my material designing class, We will look at technology as a tool to help language acquisition.

 Let's start.

In today's world, big brains advise that use technology, do not be a slave of it!

So here, I will explain my experiences while I am both learning and using technology.

In the eyes of mine, someone as a teacher candidate, technology usage in education is beneficial for both teachers and students. Because technology improves itself day by day. And if we hold on to it and go with the flow, that makes us a pearl that shines every day and makes it's circle bright as much as possible in this world that includes empty brains a lot. So let's be pearls!

Technology enlarges the opportunities to acquire language or to use the target language. The main point in language acquisition is being exposed to the target language. With the differences between the usage of technology now and before, I'll make the advantages of the technology clear for you.

In 2003's when my lecturer was an university student, they used labs to be exposed the target language. But the significant problem was the crowded classes and the limited time. But in today's world, with the widespread of the internet, we do not need a place like a lab to be exposed to language. Anywhere and any time we can create an atmosphere to acquire the language. And actually, this is the superiority of technology against the teachers.

The other important point is feedback. We all know mistakes create chances. And in language learning, mistakes are always an important way to see what we do wrong and what can we do about them. Feedback can not just be spoken but it can also be written. With the example of the apps based on language learning such as Duolingo, voscreen, etc. we can hear the pronunciation and also the correct spelling of the words or sentences in the target language. In Chomsky's behaviorism theory, we should use positive reinforcement as feedback to not break the motivation of students. But it doesn't show that negative reinforcement can't be suggested as feedbacks. By taking the student's curiosity and source of motivation into consideration both negative and positive reinforcements are feedback.

Well... I will end this part of my blog with my lecturer's words.

'We are not replaced with technology. But with teachers who can use technology.'

See you tech-heads!
